ISSUED NIGHTS


A night series for shared listening, live experiments, and issued transmissions.




ISSUED NIGHTS is a gathering for sound, community, and research in motion.


Part listening session, part party, part study, ISSUED NIGHTS treats each night as a living publication: a time-stamped transmission from our sonic community, filed into a growing archive of Black and diasporic sound practice.

ISSUED NIGHTS extends FORTHEFUTURE’s Exploration branch into the evening. Where our workshops and daytime programs often focus on study and process, ISSUED NIGHTS centers embodied listening—how ideas feel when they hit a room, a system, a body.

Across the series, you might encounter:
  • Live readings and group dialogue in response
  • In-progress works from composers, producers, and sound artists
  • guided deep-listening moments & collaborative sonic exploration

INTENTION


ISSUED NIGHTS sits at the intersection of:
  • Sound as research – What happens when we treat DJ sets, live performances, and improvised pieces as field notes and working documents?
  • Sound as community practice – How do we build rooms where Black and diasporic sonic traditions can be explored without dilution or spectacle?
  • Sound as future-building – How can a night out also be a rehearsal for new ways of being together?

The title “ISSUED” is intentional. Each gathering is:
  • An issue in an ongoing series
  • A signal issued to and from our communities
  • A statement that these sounds, stories, and lineages are here, present, and evolving

Our aim is to hold space where experimental and club worlds meet—where the work can be both serious and joyful, critical and celebratory.

SPACE, COMMUNITY & CARE


ISSUED NIGHTS follows the same commitments as the rest of the FORTHEFUTURE ecosystem:
  • No harassment, discrimination, or hate of any kind
  • Respect for Black, queer, trans, and marginalized communities
  • Care for the space and for each other
  • Consent-first culture—on the floor, in conversation, on camera

We ask everyone who enters the space to treat the night as a shared practice:
a place where dancers, listeners, artists, and staff are all actively shaping the experience.

ISSUED NIGHTS is not about clout or spectacle; it’s about building a trust-based environment where we can experiment, move, and be fully present.
