ECHOES - A Sonic exploration of Belizean Cultural & Lineage
Echoes is more than just a broadcast; it’s an ongoing research initiative tracing the lineage of Belizean and Central American soundscapes, linking them to broader Afro-Latin and Indigenous diasporic narratives. Through deep listening, historical inquiry, and artistic curation, Echoes explores how music acts as a living archive—preserving histories of migration, resistance, and cultural fusion. From Garifuna rhythms and Brukdown to Paranda and Afro-Ambient influences, Echoes highlights the rich, diverse musical traditions that embody the stories of a people deeply connected to their roots. Our work investigates sound as both a historical document and a tool for collective memory, illuminating how these sonic traditions continue to evolve within contemporary diasporic communities.
This research will culminate in a series of musical releases and live performances, as well as a gallery exhibition featuring original and collaborative works from Belizean artists and international creators. Echoes invites you to experience music as a cultural archive and to join us in this ongoing exploration.
