ROT.8 (ROTATE) is an ongoing series of curated sonic–movement explorations rooted in the ancestral, contemporary, and emergent modalities of dance music. Designed as both a gathering and a research-driven listening environment, ROT.8 investigates how diasporic rhythm, electronic expression, and embodied movement intersect to form new communal possibilities on the dance floor.
Each activation extends beyond nightlife—ROT.8 operates as a living study of global Black dance traditions, the social ecologies they generate, and the sonic innovations that sustain them. Through intentional curation, the series brings together DJs, musicians, and sound artists whose practices move fluidly between club culture, experimental sound, ritual performance, and cultural lineage.
Held in tandem with our weekly FORTHEFUTURE Radio broadcast, ROT.8 functions as both platform and archive, amplifying diverse histories of DJing, sound system culture, and Black electronic music. The night gathers what the broadcast explores: rhythm as communication, bass as architecture, movement as research, and the dance floor as a site of exchange.
Our mission is to amplify community through art, sonic experimentation, and collective experience. Central to ROT.8 is the commitment to cultivating a space of genuine safety—one that allows attendees to be fully immersed in authentic music and social interaction. We uphold a strict zero-tolerance policy against harassment, discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, and racism.
ROT.8 exists so that people can dance, listen, and connect freely. It is a space where culture is honored, expression is encouraged, and everyone is respected and valued. Through these gatherings, we affirm the role of sound and movement as essential tools for joy, liberation, and communal transformation.
